TECHASST Gurdeep Singh VrC

TECHASST  Gurdeep Singh was born on 6th March 1941, to Vir Singh and Tanto Devi, at Amritsar in Punjab. He had done his schooling in GN Khalsa High School, Dera sahib, Amritsar. On 6th December 1958, he was commissioned to field Regiment.

 

Gurung Hill attack : 18 Nov 1962

 

On 18th November 1962, Gurung Hill in Chushul area in Ladakh was attacked by the Chinese forces. At that time our artillery defensive fire was controlled by an Observation Post under the command of 2/Lt S.D. Goswami on Gurung Hill.

 

During this attack 2/Lt Goswami was seriously wounded in the action and became unconscious. Since, Technical Assistant Gurdeep Singh ,he himself took over the command of the post and continued to direct the fire on the enemy thereby  inflicting heavy casualties on them. TECHASST Gurdeep singh displayed great initiative and courage of a high order. For his gallant act he was awarded Vir Chakra Posthumoulsy.
