MIG 21 Aircrash: 21 March 2006

On the fateful day Squadron Leader PK Chikara and one more pilot were detailed for a  training sortie on a trainer version of the MiG 21 fighter aircraft . They took off at around 3:35 PM from Uttarlai airbase which is located in Barmer district of Rajasthan. Soon after the take off the aircraft became uncontrollable and in spite of their best effort to save the aircraft crashed, however, they managed to avert any damage to the civilian property. Tragically, both the pilots died and their body was found near the crash site by the rescue helicopter. The ill-fated aircraft was one of the older versions, which are progressively being phased out.

A big salute to the  Squadron Leader  PK Chikara who laid down his life in keeping the preparedness of Indian military in highest state.
