Squadron Leader A B Samanta was Serving in 37 squadron of IAF during the war with Pakistan in 1971. He was a Part Of Operation Cactus Lilly.Operation Cactus Lilly  was a Millatary Operation launched by Indian Air Force between 3-16 December in 1971 to liberate Bangladesh from Pakistan.


Squadron Leader Samanta was trained on Hunter aircraft which is a fighter bomber aircraft. On 4 December 1971, Hunter F56 BA252 flown by Squadron Leader A B Samanta of 37 Squadron was involved in a raid on adversary military establishment in Dhaka. He had done extensive damage to the Pakistani  base however his aircraft also got hit by Anti Aircraft Guns and unfortunately he too lost his life.


Squadron Leader Samanta displayed extreme  courage, valour and skill of highest degree. India lost a brave son and military leader of finest quality.
