Following his passion, he eventually joined the Army after completing his school education on 19 Jun 2018, at the age of 19 years.

He was recruited into the 23 Rajput battalion of the Rajput Regiment, an infantry Regiment well known for its fearless soldiers and numerous battle exploits. After completing his training, he gradually developed into a dedicated and professionally competent soldier. He later got married to Ms Sapna Devi from Kemri village in Nadoti Tehsil of Karauli district in Rajasthan. After serving for some time with his parent unit, he was deputed to serve with the 44 RR Battalion, deployed in J&K for counter-insurgency operations. Operation Rakshak (J&K): 14 Apr 2022

During Apr  2022, Sep Pavan Singh Gurjar's unit 44 RR was deployed in Shopian district of J&K as part of "Operation Rakshak".  As a number of militants were active in the unit’s AOR(Area of Responsibility), the unit troops had to maintain a very high state of preparedness at all times and had to undertake operations at a short notice. Based on the information from the intelligence sources, about the presence of some hardcore militants in Badigam Zainpora village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, the security forces decided to launch a search and cordon operation in the suspected area on 14 April 2022. Sep Pavan Singh was made part of the team that was assigned the task of undertaking this operation.

On 14 Apr 2022, Sep Pavan Singh and his comrades set off in an army vehicle to reach the the operational area in Badigam Zainpora village in Shopian district.  The road passed through rugged terrain with very challenging turns, abutting snow swept steep ridges. The frequent snow and rains made the matters worse and posed serious challenges to the drivers, who often had to meet time critical tasks. As Sep Pavan Singh's vehicle was on its way to the operational area, and reached near Kanipora village, it skidded off the road while negotiating a sharp turn. The driver seemingly lost control over the vehicle owing to wet conditions and the vehicle toppled along with its occupants. Sep Pavan Singh and seven other soldiers got seriously injured and were immediately rushed to the district hospital. However Sep Pavan Singh and two other soldiers Subedar Shri Om and Hav Ramautar succumbed to their injuries and were martyred. Sep Pavan Singh Gurjar was a gallant and dedicated soldier, who made the supreme sacrifice at the age of 23 years in the line of his duty.

Sepoy Pavan Singh Gurjar is survived by his father Shri Bhim Singh Gurjar, mother Smt Kamala Devi, wife Smt Sapna Devi, brothers Shri Mohan Singh and Shri Veer Singh.
