Sepoy Ajay Kumar

Sepoy Ajay Kumar hailed from Kotla Panjola village in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Son of Mr Suresh Kaundal and Mrs Kamla Devi, Sep Ajay Kumar was born on June 25th 1992.  After completing his studies, Sep Ajay Kumar  joined the Indian Army at the age of 21 years on Sept 2013.

Sep Ajay Kumar served with his parent unit for a couple of years before being deputed to Rashtriya Rifles. He was deputed to serve with 42 RR unit, deployed in J & K, for counter insurgency operations.

Tral Encounter: 24th Apr 2018 

During the year 2018, Sepoy Ajay Kumar’s unit 42 RR, was deployed in Pulwama district in J&K. On 24th Apr 2018, the unit had received credible information from the intelligence sources about the presence of terrorists in Laam forest area of Tral in Pulwama district. After analyzing the situation a decision was taken by the security forces to launch a joint operation to flush out the militants. Consequently the joint team comprising members of Army’s 42 RR unit, the state police’s Special Operations Group(SOG) and CRPF swung into action and intercepted the terrorists in the suspected area.

On being challenged the militants started firing at the security troops and a fierce gun battle ensued thereafter, which continued for several hours. Four suspected terrorist were killed in the encounter, however during the heavy exchange of fire, Sep Ajay Kumar of 42 RR sustained serious injuries. He was shifted to 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, but he succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Sep Ajay Kumar was a courageous and dedicated soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation.

Sepoy Ajay Kumar is survived by his parents.
