Rfn Rohitash Kumar was born on 1st July 1996, to Smt Ram Murti Devi and Sri Pappu Singh at Nagala Loka village of Mathura District in Uttar Pradesh. He had his earlier education in J.P. Sharma Higher Secondary School in Jagdishpur and after completing his schooling, he joined the Indian army, at the age of 19 yrs. Son of a farmer, Rfn Rohitash Kumar was the eldest among three siblings. He was inspired by his uncle Ompraksh Singh who was a soldier in the Army and was martyred in Rajouri sector in J & K on 19 Oct, 2014. With two of his younger siblings still studying and an ailing father at home, Rfn Rohitash Kumar had learnt to shoulder responsibility from an early age.
Besides his deep interest in Army life, Rfn Rohitash Kumar was a keen sportsman too. During his school days, he was a good athlete and would often win prizes in races, long jump, high jump and other track events. Rfn Rohitash Kumar joined the Army on 15 Nov 2015 and was recruited into the Rajputana Rifles Regiment, a regiment well known for its gallant soldiers. After his training at Rajputana Rifles center at Delhi Cantt, Rfn Rohitash Kumar was posted to Assam.

During 2018, Rfn Rohitash Kumar was serving with 77 Infantry Brigade deployed in the north east area. During this period a number of insurgent groups were active in Arunachal Pradesh, who were hostile to the security forces and often carried out pre-planned attacks on them. The Army units deployed in the region maintained a very high state of alert at all times and launched counter insurgency operations based on intelligence reports, on a regular basis. On 28 Mar, 2018, Rfn Rohitash Kumar was on a patrol duty in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh and at around 4:40 pm, the patrol party was struck by a mine blast.
Rfn Rohitash Kumar got seriously injured in the blast and later succumbed to his injuries. Rfn Rohitash Kumar was cremated with full military honours in his home town on 30 Mar 2018. Rfn Rohitash Kumar was a brave and dedicated soldier, who laid down his life in the service of the nation at the age of 22 years.
Rfn Rohitash Kumar is survived by his father, Shri Pappu Singh, mother Smt Ram Murti Devi, brother Bhagwan Singh and a sister Rautani Devi.
