Naik Subedar Babu Astekar

Naik Subedar Babu Astekar was born on 1st August 1969 in the Chandgad district of Karnataka state. His parents were Lakshman and Bhagyarathi  and he was fourth among 5 siblings. He did his earlier education in his hometown and after completing his PUC II year  joined the Indian Army  in the year 1976. He was inducted into 9 Maratha Regiment.

 

He got married to Smt Bebi in the year 1995  and the couple had two kids.

 

Operation Rakshak: Jan 2008

 

On 10th Jan 2008, Naik Subedar’s unit was deployed in J &K which witnessed a very heavy snowfall. Naik Subedar Babu while on duty got swept away and went missing in the avalanche caused by this heavy snowfall. The Army launched concerted efforts and pressed the specially equipped Avalanche Rescue Teams into service to search for the missing soldier but only after 45 days, they were able to find his body. Naik Subedar Babu laid down his life in the service of the motherland.

 

Naik Subedar Babu Astekar is survived by his wife Bebi Babu Ashtekar , daughter Sushmitha, and son Pratik.  His daughter as on 2018 is 17 years old and Pursuing her PUC  Ist year while the son who is 20 yrs doing his degree IInd year. Smt Bebi had a  paralytic attack after her husband’s death and is unable to talk & walk properly even today, Currently, the family is residing in Belgavi district of Karnataka.
