    Maj Y Tandon was with the Bn HQ of 4 RAJUT which was withdrawing from Sapper Camp on 19 Nov 62, under the CO Lt Col B Avasthy. The party included 4 other officers including 2IC Maj Triloknath. This party was ambushed on 23 Nov 62 at Lagyala and after a fierce resistance the CO and all others made the supreme sacrifice. Later a party under Maj PL Kukrety, on 11 Dec 62, visited the ambush site and recovered the bodies of the CO, Maj Y Tandon and Capt Dayal along with some others. Date of martyrdom is 23 Nov 1962 and place is Lagyala Gompa in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
