Major Neeraj Sharma

Major Neeraj Sharma hailed from the Una district of Himachal Pradesh. He was commissioned into the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), a branch of the Indian Army, responsible for design, development, trial, inspection and refit of weapon systems and equipment. In the year 2020, he was serving with 19 Sikh LI battalion located in Uttar Pradesh. 

Bikaner Road Accident: 12 Sept 2020

During 2020, Maj Neeraj Sharma's unit 19 Sikh LI, was deployed in the Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. On 12 Sep 2020, Maj Neeraj Sharma along with Col MS Chauhan and two other soldiers were traveling from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh to Bikaner in Rajasthan. Maj Neeraj Sharma and his comrades were going for a forward area reconnaissance in Rajasthan. While on the way, at about 5.30 am near Jaipur National Highway in Bikaner, their vehicle overturned owing to a tyre burst, near Jodhesar village. As the vehicle overturned while moving at speed, the impact on the occupants was very severe. As a result Maj Neeraj Sharma and other occupants too got seriously injured.

They were taken to the nearby PBM government hospital, but it was too late for the doctors to save Col MS Chauhan and his comrade Major Neeraj Sharma. However the other two soldiers sitting in front of the Tata Safari vehicle later recovered after treatment as their injuries were less severe. Maj Neeraj Sharma was a dedicated soldier and fine officer, who lost his life in this tragic accident.
