    In reply to Rajeev Mishra.
Unfortunately, not much is known about the course of counter insurgency operations in the NE in the dedades immediately following independence. The brave martyrs of the nation who gave up their lives defending our sovereignty and integrity in these far flung corners of the nation should not be forgotten.

I can’t say much about Op battle axe performed by Indian Army. One Op Battle axe was performed by British Army in 1941 in Europe. Long ago, I had seen one cenotaph of Major Hawa Singh in Ngopa, Mizoram. There were names of martyred soldiers from Bihar regiment engraved on that cenotaph. Its said that He martyred while bravely defending his company post along with his 30 or 35 troops when more than 2000-3000 insurgents surrounded his company post. As far as I remember, The cenotaph mentioned the year 1968. I can’t say Major Hawa Singh is the same officer or different officer.
