Lance Naik Prahlad Singh Pachahara

Lance Naik Prahlad Singh Pachahara was born on 4th June 1969 in Surja Karoli village in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. Since his childhood he nursed the idea of  joining Indian Army and pursued his dream after his schooling. Lance Naik Prahlad Singh was good in studies and received his initial and secondary education in Shri Radhakrishna Inter college Hasanpur Mathura.

Lance Naik Prahlad Singh’s ardent desire to join the Army motivated him to work hard to clear the entrance exam and consequently he was recruited into the Army on 29th October 1994.  Lance Naik Prahlad Singh got married to Radha Devi and the couple had two daughters, Poonam and Pooja , born on 15th May 1996 and 22nd August 1999 respectively. Lance Naik Prahlad Singh had three sisters viz. Mahaveeri Devi, Booti Devi and Meera Devi and two brothers, Rajveer Singh and Satveer Singh. Lance Naik Prahlad Singh belonged to a family engaged in farming and his both brothers continue to carry on with their family profession.

Convoy Movement Accident : 01 Nov 1999

Lance Naik Prahlad was actively involved in the Kargil war and after the war he was stationed at Puri Tanlai. On 01 Nov 1999, Lance Naik Prahlad Singh along with his comrade Upendra Singh were sitting in their Commanding officer’s vehicle and were passing through the notorious ‘Khooni Nalla’ area. The area as the name suggests and literally means ‘Killer Gorge’  is a dangerous and treacherous place for any vehicular movement. However, the army vehicles have to pass through that area to reach to their operational areas along the border.

Unfortunately , the driver of their vehicle failed to negotiate the treacherous terrain and the vehicle fell in the gorge. In fact, Lance Naik Prahlad Singh’s vehicle was the last vehicle in the convoy, but his CO had asked him to join him which was the first vehicle in the convoy. He was a trusted , competent and committed soldier and therefore his CO wanted Lance Naik Prahlad to be with him through the journey. As Lance Naik Prahlad Singh along with his comrade fell into the gorge, they were hit by the rocks and the vehicle too fell on them.

After half an hour of the accident they were evacuated from the gorge and taken by an aircraft to the Army hospital at Udhampur. However, Lance Naik Prahlad Singh succumbed to his injuries and a dedicated soldier was lost in the service of the nation. His mortal remains reached his village Surja Karoli after 4 days, where he was cremated near the village’s Shiva temple.

Lance Naik Prahlad singh laid down his life in the line of duty while serving with devotion and courage. His daughters Poonam and Pooja want to follow in the footsteps of their father and want to join the Army to carry forward the legacy of their family of serving the motherland.

Lance Naik Prahlad singh is survived by his wife Radha Devi and daughters Poonam and Pooja.
