Flt Lt RM Advani

Flight Lieutenant RM Advani was serving in Jet Bomber Conv Unit of IAF. He was a part of operation Cactus Lilly . Operation Cactus Lilly was a Military operation  undertaken between 3-16 December 1971 by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to liberate Bangladesh from Pakistan.


Flight Lieutenant RM Advani was trained as navigator of Canberra fighter bomber aircraft. Canberra aircraft was operated by two aircrew ; pilot and the navigator. The aircraft had the provision of only one escape parachute which means only the pilot could eject in case of aircraft getting hit. On 04 Dec 1971 Flight Lieutenant RM Advani was the Navigator of the Canberra (IF-913) which flying over  an airbase in West Pakistan to bomb the base, however, the aircraft was  shot down over Sargodha by a Mirage III aircraft of Pakistani Air Force. He along with  his pilot Flt Lt Sasoon were declared Killed In Action (KIA) on 4th December 1971.


Flight Lieutenant RM Advani made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
